The innate talent of all students is nurtured in the distinct clubs namely - music, painting & sketching, rangoli, dramatics, cookery, creative writing, dance, origami, aero modeling, soft toys making and so on.

Activity Day

Saturday is marked as the day for multifarious activities namely - elocution, poetry recitation, G.K. quiz, jam sessions, singing etc. The activities are conducted under the guidance and supervision of the house incharges. The main concern is to discover hidden talents and boost up their confidence so that the children can shed their stage fear and hesitation.

House Meetings

House meetings are a regular feature once in a month.

The students of the four houses viz. Nishtha, Jyoti, Abhyas, and Swayamprabha assemble for the meetings. They recite their respective house songs and their house motto. Different topics related to the daily routine of students' life are taken up as the agenda of the meetings.

Reading

Reading together is an activity when for a few minutes every year, all the school activities in the school campus come to a halt as everybody is absorbed in silent reading. This is done to inculcate a reading culture not only among the students but also the teaching and non-teaching fraternity; even the visitors are provided with reading material. To inculcate reading habits book forms are held, readings quiz and many other Lib. related competitions.

Koshish

Koshish' is an educator's forum supported by INTEL, which organizes regular open forums focusing on value addition for educators every month.

Koshish' has been an endeavor made to follow up, monitor, facilitate and enhance the efforts made by schools to promote TAL (Technology Aided Learning) amongst the students.

Koshish' has become a tool in the hands of the educator to attain a futuristic approach to teaching and learning processes.

This club has received award on 5th Sept., 2007 by H.E. Gen Retd. S.F. Rodrigues, Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh.

Hawan and Yagya

DAV philosophy is that in the process of molding our children, we accept not only the best that the western education has to offer but also integrate it with the basic values of our ancient cultural heritage. We have set a trend to harmonize the school ambience with the 'hawan' or 'yagya'. The efforts are towards making 'Yagya' an integral part so as to generate a pious and pure way of living.

By doing hawans, we rejuvenate the chastity of the atmosphere. The recitation of the vedic mantras helps us to recuperate from all the hurries and worries of life. Listening to the sermons of great yogis and purohits help us to grow into compassionate human beings. Thus, we realize the importance of a saying: "Be nice to all human beings, you are still one of them."

Excursions

The school offers considerable scope for stimulating disciplined adventure. The enthusiasts are taken on trips to the mountains and treks and on educational tours.

Under the escort of teachers, long duration as well as day trips are organized to augment the supplement educational activity in the school. The objective of such excursions and camps is to inculcate values such as self-reliance and confidence. Pitching tents and living in the environs of nature teaches students to fend for themselves.

Hobbies

The co-curricular activities are integral part of the mainstream curricula. As the current era demands a multifaceted individual, the institution is religiously working towards tapping and shaping the immense potential of the pupils. A step towards the said goal is achieved by inviting experts for the different activity clubs namely dramatics, dance & music (classical, folk & western), aero modelling, bonsai, rangoli, painting & sketching, art & craft etc.

The last two periods of each Thursday are set aside for the hobby clubs. Each child is free to join whichever club the child wishes to be in. Special instructors are called in to guide the students. The students can choose to belong to any one of the following junior or senior clubs:

  • Aerobics
  • Classical Dance
  • Computers
  • Cookery
  • Drama
  • Doll Making
  • Embroidery
  • Fabric Painting
  • Flower Arrangement
  • French Learning
  • Instrumental Music
  • Nature and Environment Study
  • Origami
  • Painting and Sketching
  • Public Speaking
  • Rangoli and Dough Craft
  • Sports
  • Stuffed Toys

House System

To bring about a healthy spirit of competition, the school is divided into four houses:

  • Abhyas
  • Jyoti
  • Nishtha
  • Swayamprabha

Each house elects its Captain, Vice-Captain, Sports Captain, and Sports Vice-Captain. A member of the staff acts as a warden.

The house system is a nodal point for sensitizing the students to the various issues of discipline thereby making them self-disciplined as well as graduating them to higher standards. The students are trained to organize and coordinate various inter-disciplinary activities.

In order to reinforce this skill the school also appoints student Office bearers. A Head Girl, Head Boy and Discipline incharge head this team.
